A 4-week workshop teaching middle school girls to tap into their unique awesomeness through self-love, self-trust and self-respect.

Create Beautifully presents…

As mamas of pre-teens, we know that…

  • Our kiddos are experiencing more anxiety than ever

  • Middle school & all the change it brings is HARD (remember?)

  • Technology is often a substitute for self-regulation

  • Their sense of self-worth is greatly impacted by social media

  • They have more pressure to perform than ever - in school & out of school

In order to address these pressures,

The Power of Being You focuses on these three principles:

  • Self-Love

To love ourselves means to accept ourselves fully. To celebrate our unique gifts and talents, and to have compassion for the parts of us we’d rather keep hidden. To learn to listen to the wisdom of our hearts as a deep place of knowing.

  • Self-Trust

To trust ourselves means that we keep our word to ourselves; when we say we will do something, we follow through. It also means that no matter what happens, we trust that we can be true to ourselves in light of any situation.

  • Self-Respect

To respect ourselves means to honor our inner “yes” and our inner “no.” It means not giving away more of ourselves than we feel comfortable with, and it means that when we inevitably do, we are able to restore our integrity.

Hey! We’re Anne & Liza!

Liza and Anne met 16 years ago when they both worked at a local spa. Over the years, a shared interest in personal development and supporting women's growth has kept them continually sharing and swapping meaningful tools and resources. After Liza briefly commented to Anne earlier in 2022 about her daughter being in middle school and how she’d begun to consider starting a workshop,, Anne responded that she'd been working out an embodiment program for teenagers as part of her certification from The Embody Lab. Thus, the brainstorming between the two of them began and The Power of Being You is the program they’re creating together!. They are so excited to share it with you!

Learn more about each of us below!

This is us back in middle school! Ha!

What to Expect from POBY

  • Fostering a Sense of Self

When we’re continually looking to peers and social media not only for approval, but to find things to claim as our identiy, we can end up far from who we truly are. POBY is all about creating a strong sense of self from within.

  • Exploring Imagination & Possibility

Everything around us began in the imagination. It takes imagination & a belief in what’s possible to create one’s future.

  • Nurturing Body Awareness

It can be around the pre-teen years when we start to separate from our body & ignore the wisdom that it holds. Here, we guide pre-teens to be aware of their body and teach how to listen to it.

  • Making Choices & Decisions

Being able to choose things that align with our values in light of whatever oppositional pressure is coming up is key in self respect and confidence. POBY teaches how to do this.

Hey, I’m Anne!

I’m Anne Putnam. I run my own bodywork practice as a licensed massage therapist and reflexologist (15+ years), am a somatic educator, and am finishing up my M.A. in Creative & Depth Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute.

I underwent a very difficult and eye-opening time of life during my 30s. It was here that I dove into the roots of it and it became glaringly apparent how much a program like the Power of Being You would have been for me in my youth. This is a large part of the motivation drawing me towards facilitating a program for middle school girls. I am to help them develop and foster deeper levels of self-respect and trust in their body’s wisdom.

Curiosity and creativity are fundamental to my perspective. Getting curious about what's happening in the moment helps me approach whatever it is I'm engaged in with more creativity and life-affirming choices. At the end of my day, I aim to feel that I stretched myself to meet the challenge of each moment with an open mind, courageous heart and attention to the beauty that’s continually offered to us in life.

Deep listening skills, devoted discernment, and nurturing a relationship with The Creator are each important practices that I have cultivated as an adult that would have provided me much comfort as a teen.

After graduating from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Communication, I taught environmental and outdoor education and facilitated team-building programs for more than a decade for students, families, corporations, and organizations.

Sharing my enthusiasm and gifts with young women as they navigate the labyrinth that is growing up, I hope to offer them resources that may serve them well into their adult years. As an aunt to 8 nieces and nephews, I've been blessed to love and support the next generation that strengthens the value of family and am always learning loads from them, too.

Hey, I’m Liza!

Hey, I’m Liza Hippler! I’m a mother of two girls, ages 9 and 12. I’m a brand photographer, brand coach, trained life coach and work with women looking to bring more of themselves into their businesses. I’ve been an actor, photographer, mom blogger and tech entrepreneur, but the one through line has been my journey within.

I’ve spent the majority of my life obsessed with human behavior (my own & others) and always asking the question, “What’s causing this behavior/feeling/thought? Can I change it?” (This inquiry MAY have started with wondering why my first boyfriend broke up with me.)

Over several decades, I’ve worked on myself participating in everything from traditional therapy to months-long global forums to brainspotting, wholeness group containers, trauma release and breathwork (not to mention the countless books I’ve consumed). And nope, there’s nothing more “wrong” with me than anyone else, I’m just endlessly fascinated by diving in, finding the triggers and untangling them like a knotted necklace using whatever tools will help. I believe it’s been this passion to learn the inner workings of people that initially drew me to major in Theatre at the University of Southern California - it was how I approached creating characters. But I wanted something deeper than just that.

You don’t do this much work on yourself without gaining a fair amount of insight into the human condition itself.

Two of my biggest gifts are insight and breakdown: I easily find connections in people’s experiences and whatever was/is the likely cause. And then, it’s simple for me to use my experience and knowledge and break it down into tasty bite-sized wholeness treats that kids and adults alike can integrate immediately.

My own middle school experience was pretty shi**y (and I know I’m not alone!). I was bullied in 7th and 8th grade and it was part of the reason we moved from New Jersey to Tennessee. Now, being a mom to a middle schooler, I’m watching with eyes wide open at the changes that happen in early middle school - not just physical, but the things they care about, the places they look for validation, where they seek love, who they trust - and I know that THIS is such a KEY TIME to get in there with these girls.

Recently, I dove into inquiry with myself and God to see if I could understand my life’s purpose. What came up was PERMISSION & BELONGING. When it comes to the Power of Being You and these girls, my personal mission is to give them an experience of what it feels like to have internal permission to be who they are - the “Instagram worthy” and the “I’d never post that” parts of them - permission to say yes to things that light them up and no to things that would betray their self-trust, and also to experience a felt sense of belonging to themselves and also to a group of friends they can trust.

My deepest values are authenticity, uniqueness, creativity, joy and presence. I understand that being aware of and embracing our full selves “warts & all” is what creates wholeness and groundness in a person. This awareness and embracing is a life-long spiral of a journey and I would love to help guide your daughters on a piece of their own beautiful journey.

All kinds of girls can benefit from Power of Being You including those who:

  • Worry about certain things a lot -> POBY teaches how to redirect that worry into something productive and meaningful to help them feel more at ease.

  • Are leaders in their peer groups -> POBY gives them additional tools that help ground them and support their outgoing attitude.

  • Girls who are ready for more independence and want to expand the people she looks up to and broaden her world view.

  • Girls who feel uncertain about how to express themselves authentically while staying connected to her friends and loved ones.

  • Girls who feel overwhelmed, bored or caught up with all the materialistic expectations that the media glorifies -> POBY teaches how to better navigate this part of our society.
